Dr. william lippy, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. William Lippy is founder of the Lippy Group for Ear, Nose & Throat. He is an internationally recognized expert in stapedectomy surgery for treatment of deafness. He is one of a handful of surgeons in the world who has performed thousands of stapedectomies. Dr. Lippy created "The Lippy Stapes Prosthesis", many instruments used in stapdectomy surgery, and has many scientific publications to his name. His efforts in educating young otologists and audiologists are internationally recognized. He also teaches and performs ear surgery abroad. He is the past president of the Otosclerosis Study Group.

Dr. Lippy has supported humanitarian causes since his youth. He has a special interest in athletics, and tennis in particular. These efforts led to the founding of Israel Tennis Centers that have served over 400,000 children. Jump Start America in 1992 was another of Dr. Lippy's creations. Employers supporting this initiative gave a bonus to any employee who purchased an American built automobile. That year the American share of the automobile market increased for the first time in 30 years

Dr. Lippy's special interest is the treatment and surgery for otosclerosis. He has done over 17,000 stapedectomies including 2000 revisions for otosclerosis. Revision surgery is done for patients whose original surgery was unsuccessful or whose original surgery was successful and then failed. His success rate in revision surgery has dramatically increased over the years because of his great experience, and the advent of the laser. He has written more than 50 peer review papers and five chapters in textbooks. He has taught courses for over 25 years at the Academy of Otolaryngology on unusual problems of the bones of the middle ear and on stapedectomy. He has developed many of the instruments and techniques that are widely used throughout the world. He has written on such exotic subjects as far advance otosclerosis, stapedectomy in the elderly patients, stapedectomy in children, stapedectomy in combat pilots, what to expect in the second ear, based on what was found in the first ear, and the largest series ever published on revision stapedectomy. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, The Michigan Ear Institute, The University of Miami, The University of Colorado, The University of Pittsburgh, Sanford University, The University of Texas, Long Island Jewish Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, Henry Ford Hospital, in Detroit, The Cleveland Clinic, The University of Cincinnati, Tel Aviv University, The University of Eastern Virginia, Western Reserve University, Kings Hospital in Amman Jordan, The University of Cairo, Egypt, The University of Istanbul, Turkey and the University of Burkerest, in Romania.
