Leonard Berenholz, M.D., F.A.C.S.

physic3Dr. Berenholz joined the Lippy Group in 2003. His specialty is Otologic surgery. Dr. Berenholz has extensive experience in chronic ear surgery to reconstruct eardrums and middle ear bones as well as in the surgical management of cholesteatoma. He has performed several thousand middle ear reconstructions including stapedectomy. He additionally treats Meniere’s patients medically, and when necessary, will perform ear injections to alleviate symptoms. In severe cases Dr. Berenholz may operate to control the dizziness. For single-sided deafness or atresia he performs bone anchored hearing aid (BAHA) surgery and does cochlear implants for the severe to profound hearing losses that cannot be helped with hearing aids. In addition to his practice in Ohio, Dr. Berenholz also has an otosclerosis surgery practice in Israel

Dr. Berenholz has been associated with Dr. Lippy since 1996 and was personally trained by him to perform Dr. Lippy’s renowned stapedectomy technique. During 1998 and 1999 Dr. Berenholz trained with the Lippy Group Fellowship Program performing a variety of specialized otologic reconstructive surgeries. During his years of practice, Dr. Berenholz has added numerous original research articles to the medical literature and has collaborated with Dr. Lippy in researching otosclerosis and techniques of stapedectomy.

Originally from Philadelphia, Dr. Berenholz’s medical, education, surgical and otolaryngology training were undertaken in this city from 1979-1988. From 1977 until 1996 he was on staff at several hospitals in Philadelphia, including the Einstein Medical Center, (a level 1 trauma center). In addition to working at Einstein Medical Center he was an instructor at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Berenholz was active in training residents at both Jefferson University Hospital and at Einstein Medical Center. In 2001 he was appointed Assistant Professor at Tel Aviv University of Medicine. From 1999 until 2003 he directed otologic surgery at a large hospital in Israel.
